A surf story between Biel and Florida

Eine Surf Story zwischen Biel und Florida

The sun is low, a wave is approaching, and a longboard glides elegantly across the water. The surfer's name is Matteo Kunz (second from left). His heart beats for longboard surfing, and his roots lie somewhere between Biel and Florida. It all started in Florida, where he learned what it means to grow up with salt on his skin and sand in his hair.

Today, Matteo competes for Switzerland in various surf contests, proving that a landlocked country has more to offer than just mountains and lakes. He has been competing for three years, representing Switzerland with great passion and an unmistakable flow on his longboard.

We at WILI WILI TREE are proud to have Matteo as our new Brand Ambassador. We support him so he can live out his passion for surfing and test our products in real-life surfing situations.

Who is Matteo Kunz?

Matteo lives between two worlds. Growing up in Florida, he spent countless hours by the sea, first playing in the waves and then discovering longboarding as his great love. He is fascinated by the interplay of balance and the serene dance with the wave.

Today, Matteo lives in Biel. The ocean is no longer right on his doorstep, but his passion remains. Instead of walking to the sea every day, he carefully plans his surf sessions. He travels to spots in Europe, trains in wave pools like Alaia Bay in Sion, and spends many hours on fitness, balance, and technique training.

His style on the board is unique. Classic longboard elements like cross steps and nose rides combine with modern dynamics. With this, he has already won several titles and podium finishes and made a name for himself in the young Swiss surf scene. He is also a well-known figure in the Florida surf scene.

Matteo's daily life consists of school, training, and traveling to the world's most beautiful surf spots. He knows the challenge of balancing everyday life and competitive sport, yet remains focused on his vision: to help shape the Swiss surf scene and show what's possible on a longboard. Because longboard surfing is still in its infancy in Switzerland.

Why Matteo is a good fit for WILI WILI TREE

At WILI WILI TREE, we are not looking for mere photographic faces, but for people who live our values: a thirst for adventure, respect for nature, joy of movement and the courage to go their own way.

Matteo embodies this perfectly. He commutes between Biel, the sea, and the wave pool, organizes his sport from a landlocked country, and refuses to accept that surfing is only a peripheral part of his life. His flexibility, his wanderlust, and his determination perfectly reflect the spirit of WILI WILI TREE.

Our products are made for real outdoor life. They're waterproof, keep sand out, and are ready for any adventure. Whether Matteo sets his things down in the wet sand at the beach, runs through the rain to catch the bus, or stands at the airport with his board bag, our duffel bags and roll-top backpacks have to perform. Damp wetsuits, towels, a change of clothes, fins, and a laptop all need to be safely stowed away.

That's precisely why our collaboration is so valuable. Matteo tests our products where it matters most: on the pier, in the competition area, while traveling, and in everyday life. His feedback helps us to further develop our bags and backpacks so that they can accompany surfers and all outdoor enthusiasts for years to come.

A partnership with a view to the future

With Matteo Kunz as our brand ambassador, a new chapter begins. We'll be accompanying him on his journey from everyday life in Biel to the world's biggest waves. Our bags and backpacks will be with him as he travels to the next surf contest, discovers new spots, or simply enjoys a relaxed surf session with his friends.

This partnership is more than just a logo on a bag. Matteo brings us his experience from the surfing world, and we provide products that support his lifestyle. Together, we want to inspire a community that believes in itself, challenges boundaries, and finds its own path, whether it lives by the sea or a lake.

And the best part: We're taking you along on this journey together. More to follow.
